Booking & Playing
How do I book a table?
You can book directly through our online reservation widget. One table booking accommodates up to four players, so gather your favorite crew of four and come play.
Can I book an individual seat?
Yes! If you are flying solo, you can book an open seat, and we’ll pair you with other players based on your experience level. If a table hasn't filled at least 8 hours prior to the session, we’ll reach out directly with recommended alternative times.
How long is a standard playing session?
A standard table or seat booking is 2 hours. You can extend your playing time for an additional fee.
Can I extend my session? How much does it cost?
Yes, based on studio availability. You may extend your session for up to one additional hour. It is $20 per table or $10 per seat to extend.
What if I don't see the time I'm looking for?
Give the studio a call or send us an email. We’ll do our best to accommodate your group or add you to our waitlist.
How far in advance can I book?
Reservations open 45 days in advance.
Can I modify or reschedule my reservation?
Yes. Please call or email the studio, and our team will gladly assist you with adjusting or rescheduling your booking.
What is the cancellation policy and fee?
Cancellations made within 24 hours of a full table booking are subject to a $25 fee. There is no cancellation fee for individual seats, and members enjoy free cancellations at any time.
Do I need to bring my own mahjong set or supplies?
Not at all. We provide full designer tile sets, mats, racks, pushers, and scoring accessories at every table. Just bring yourself.
Can beginners book regular play, or should they take a lesson first?
If you’re brand new to the game, we strongly recommend reserving a table with a dedicated instructor or joining one of our beginner workshops before booking regular open play.
Membership
When does my membership begin?
Your membership benefits activate immediately upon purchase.
How do I use my membership when booking?
Simply log into your member portal before selecting a time. Your member rates and perks will apply automatically at checkout.
Are there limits on how often I can play?
Members enjoy unlimited table bookings, holding one active table reservation at a time, with a 1 booking daily maximum. There is a $20 fee for an additional hour.
Do members pay cancellation fees?
No. Members enjoy flexible, fee-free cancellations.
Can I pause or transfer my membership?
Memberships cannot be paused or transferred to another individual, but you may cancel anytime directly through your account.
Are memberships limited?
Yes. To ensure table availability and an exceptional experience for our community, memberships are strictly capped.
Lessons & Beginners
Do I need to know how to play to visit?
Not at all! We love introducing new players to the game. You can reserve a table with a dedicated instructor or register for one of our beginner workshops.
Do you offer beginner lessons?
Yes. We offer scheduled beginner clinics as well as private table instruction. Check our events calendar for upcoming class dates.
What is included in a lesson, and how long does it run?
Our lessons run for 2 hours and cover everything you need to play with confidence:
- Core Fundamentals: Tile identification, suit recognition, and basic terminology
- Gameplay & Rules: Understanding the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card and mastering the Charleston
- Hands-on Strategy: Supervised live gameplay with real-time coaching from an instructor
All playing materials, tiles, and NMJL cards are provided for use during your session (cards are for in-studio play and are also available for purchase in our retail shop).
How many people can attend a lesson?
Private table lessons accommodate up to 4 players. Community workshop sizes vary based on the class format.
How far in advance do lessons need to be booked?
Private table instruction requires at least 72 hours in advance of your booking to schedule an instructor.
Private Events
Can I host a private event at The Queen’s Mahjery?
Yes! We host birthdays, bachelorettes, corporate team outings, brand activations, private tournaments, and more! Whatever your vision is, we’ll help you bring it to life.
Can I reserve a private room or buy out the full studio?
Yes, we offer both partial and full room reservations, as well as full-studio private buyouts.
Do you offer instruction for private events?
Yes. Dedicated instructors can be added to your event to teach beginners, guide play, or run mini tournaments.
Can food and drinks be included?
Yes. We offer curated in-house beverage and snack menus, custom charcuterie boards, and preferred catering coordination. If you’d like to bring in your own catering, we are happy to work with you for your vision to come to life.
How do I request a private event?
Submit an inquiry via our website’s Private Events form, and our event coordinator will be in touch within 24–48 hours.
Food & Beverage
Is food available at the studio?
We offer a curated selection of artisanal snacks and beverages during all sessions, as well as fresh charcuterie boards available for pre-order.
How do I order charcuterie?
You can add a charcuterie board directly to your booking at checkout, or contact the studio by phone/email to add one to an existing reservation by 12:00 PM the day prior to your booking.
Can I purchase wine and beverages in the studio?
Yes, we have beer and wine available for purchase. Complimentary non-alcoholic beverages are included with table rentals.
Can I bring in outside food and beverages?
Outside food and beverages are not permitted during standard play. For private events and studio buyouts, outside catering may be coordinated in advance.
Is outside alcohol permitted?
No. All alcohol must be purchased through our licensed in-studio beverage program.
General Visiting
Where are you located?
We are located at Oakhurst Commons: 4000 Monroe Rd, Suite 110, Charlotte, NC.
Where should I park?
Complimentary surface parking is available directly surrounding the building.
What are your hours of operation?
We are open Monday - Tuesday & Thursday - Saturday 10 AM - 8PM, Sun 12 PM - 6 PM. We are closed Wednesday's for private events.
Is there an age requirement?
Guests under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. For players ages 10+, we offer dedicated family-friendly open play hours and private youth event bookings. Please contact the studio directly to coordinate bookings for younger guests.
Do you accept walk-ins?
Walk-ins are welcomed based on real-time table availability, though advance online booking is strongly recommended.
Do you sell mahjong sets and gifts?
Yes! Our studio retail shop carries designer tile sets, custom mats, racks, card cases, and curated mahjong lifestyle gifts.
