Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know how to play?
Yes. While the environment is social and fun, this is a competitive, point-tracked league. Players should have a solid working knowledge of National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) rules and be able to play at a steady pace. (New to the tiles? Join one of our Queen's Mahj 101 lessons!)
What is the age requirement?
This league is open to players ages 16 and up.
What happens if I have to miss a week?
Life happens! If you cannot make a session, you are welcome (and encouraged) to send a substitute player in your place so your table stays full. We’ll provide sub guidelines and scoring protocol closer to kickoff.
Can I sign up with a partner or group, or do I sign up solo?
You can do either! You’re welcome to register with friends or come on your own. We seat and rotate players throughout the season, so you’ll get plenty of opportunities to play with your crew while meeting new tile friends.
What prizes are up for grabs?
Beyond bragging rights, we’re awarding grand prizes, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes for both the morning and evening leagues at the end of the 6 weeks. Plus, we’ll hold weekly raffle giveaways featuring goodies from local, women-owned businesses—and every time you call "Mahjong!", you earn an extra ticket into that week's draw!
Are food and drinks included? Can we BYOB?
Light bites and non-alcoholic beverages are included with your league registration each week. Wine and alcoholic beverages are available for purchase in studio.
